Like most here at Kea, I started my career as a Junior Researcher in the business, building my network and understanding of hiring processes for a couple of years. I then progressed to the Consultant team, leading accounts with specific clients and helping them hire for their teams. Now as a VP, I maintain my focus on account development and hiring processes, whilst thinking in tandem about growing Kea’s offering to the market and helping to hire and build Kea’s own team. I now balance my time across hiring for funds in both the public equities and private equity spaces, leading many of our searches across private equity, and fundamental public investors. This last category encompasses activist funds, asset managers, multi-strategy platform funds, and single-manager hedge funds.

My most rewarding relationships are those that have lasted years, and every new person I meet presents an opportunity to foster that same sense of connectivity.
This longevity is true too of the Kea team, where we all work closely together and have done so for several years, to the extent where we can disagree with each other and challenge each other, and come to a clearer understanding of how to match the right people together in the industry.

What do you enjoy about the role/the team etc?

I get huge enjoyment from getting to know someone over a longer period of time, and becoming a part of their career development or their team’s growth. I have developed a specialism within Kea, splitting my time between Hedge Fund and Private Equity mandates, and together with a few other colleagues focus on building out our public market coverage. Roles within Hedge Funds can be unique and specific, and to hire for them requires cultivating a strong network and understanding what the candidate is truly looking for – an approach which works just as well for Private Equity.

I split my time between running hiring processes for our clients, meeting people across the industry, and being a part of Kea’s internal management structures. The first of those involves working with clients over periods of years, getting to know them fully and consistently advocating for them, building their teams through successive hiring processes. The second leads me to travel around the city, dedicating time to each individual and sitting with them for a proper amount of time to learn who they are, and what is truly important to them. And the third has me line-manage team members at Kea, help with internal projects such as training and hiring programmes for our team, and plan for new initiatives we can offer to our clients.
